Search Results Grouping Now In OneDirectory

One of the best ways to describe the modern employee directory is that it's like a map of your company.

Since your organization is made up of various entities - people, offices, departments, skills, and various other elements - having a way to bring all this information together and making it searchable is how today's globally distributed and remote-first companies manage to stay connected.

At OneDirectory, we're committed to helping people connect with their coworkers as easily and as enjoyably as they do when they're physically together in the same office.

So we dedicated some time to building a new visualization feature that's going to help you view your employee directory search results in a more structured way. Plus, help you answer some questions about your organizational structure that you can't really get answers to anywhere else.

It's called Group Search Results, and with it you can quickly group any set of people search results by office, department, or job title.

By grouping your search results you can now more easily make sense of large numbers of people, and it becomes easier to visually locate who you're looking for in a list of potentially hundreds (or thousands) of results.

That's great, but...

What we really love about the new group search results feature is that it helps you answer certain specific questions about your organizational structure.

Things like:

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» "How many accountants work in our Europe offices?"

πŸ€” "What are the different roles in my sales department?"

πŸ—½ "How many departments do we have in New York?"

🏒 "Which offices does the marketing team work from?"

🌍 "How globally distributed is our board of directors?"

While these may not be the types of questions you ponder very often, if you ever do need to find out more about the structure of your organization, the group search results feature is an easy way to get the answers you need.

How to group search results in OneDirectory

To group any search result view in OneDirectory simply click the "By person" default grouping button next to the search results heading, then choose a field to group by.

This will group the search results instantly. No page reloads or fetching data; grouping happens instantly in the browser.

πŸ“ Note: OneDirectory will remember the last grouping you selected, for your entire OneDirectory session. To return to the default grouping, choose "By person" from the group by dropdown.

It's a small feature with a big heart πŸ’ and we hope you find it useful!
