People: A New Way to Manage Everyone in Your Directory 👥

People is a new section in the Directory Console that puts every profile in your directory, employees, guests, and service accounts, into one list you can search, sort, and edit.

What's inside:

  • 🗂️ Separate tabs for employees, guests, and service accounts, each with live counts
  • 🔍 Search by name, then filter and sort by job title, office, department, or custom fields
  • 👤 A side panel that shows the full profile next to the list, grouped into sections like Identity and Job Information
  • ✏️ Edit any field in place, with photo uploads, date pickers, and smart selectors for managers, countries, and departments
  • ⚡ Quick actions to open a profile in the directory, copy its link, view the org chart, or jump straight to Microsoft Entra

The people section is now live for admins and directory editors.

All editing now happens in the OneDirectory Directory Console

Edit Mode Retires: Editing Now Lives in the Console 🛠️

We've retired the old Edit Mode toggle. All directory editing now happens in the Directory Console, in a purpose-built interface with the people list, side panels, and inline field editing.

Where you used to switch on Edit Mode, you'll now see an Edit in Console button that opens the Console at whatever you were viewing.

This only changes things for admins and directory editors. Nothing changes for everyone else, and employees can still update their own profiles if you have that enabled.

It's part of a bigger shift: the Directory Console is becoming the single place for all directory administration. There's more in there already, and we'll cover it in upcoming updates.

The Employee Directory Data Problem Is Fixable 📈

In April we published data showing that at first Microsoft 365 sync, the average employee profile is 30.8% complete and only 42% of employees have a manager recorded.

In August we measured the same 65 tenants again, after each organization had spent time running OneDirectory and working on its profile data. The numbers moved:

  • 📊 Average profile completeness rose from 30.8% to 44.1%
  • 🧭 Manager coverage rose from 42% to 79% of employees, the largest movement of any field we measure
  • ✅ Organizations meeting our directory-ready threshold rose from 33% to 61%, close to double

The pattern is worth looking at: incomplete employee data is not a permanent condition of working in Microsoft 365.
